The Portland Association of Teachers has paused all of its social media activity in the wake of the bruising strike that closed schools for almost all of November. The pause comes amidst rising internal criticism over its stance on the Israel-Hamas war.

In a statement emailed to The Oregonian/OregonLive, PAT President Angela Bonilla said the volunteer educators who run the union’s social media accounts asked for a break until the end of January following the strike in order to “recharge creatively” and focus on their classrooms.
